While we have seemingly seen more of them this year than most, it has been a very tough winter on bear here in the valley.
Recently, the Wildlife Center in Waynesboro admitted another yearling Black Bear - the 11th this year. He had been hanging around a house in Greene County and appeared to be quite thin and very lethargic. An examination showed he was severely emaciated and had even lost some hair due to poor nutrition.
Wildlife Center staff say they knew the winter would be tough on the bears after the poor acorn crop last fall.
