The Route 727 Bridge, better known as the Airport Road Bridge in Mt. Crawford is opening ahead of schedule.
VDOT says the new bridge spanning the North River will be open to traffic today. The original completion date for the 4.5 million dollar project was December 6th. VDOT says the contractor, Fishersville based Fairfield-Echols was able to construct a new bridge and realign part of the road two weeks early.
The old bridge was closed after suffering structural damage from an overweight truck back in November of 2011 and had to be completely torn down.
